Profitable AI SaaS for scientific figures — 5.5k+ paid subs, 95k+ users, 120% YoY, runs on 4 hrs/wk

AI-native scientific illustration platform used by 95,000+ researchers, students and labs worldwide, including researchers at Harvard, Cambridge and Oxford. Describe the figure you need, the app generates it in a consistent scientific style, and you edit, arrange and export publication-ready figures, posters and presentations on one canvas — no design skills, no $1,000 commissioned illustration. The incumbents are drag-and-drop icon libraries; this was the first AI-first product in the category, and users rave about how the figures look. Self-serve subscription SaaS (Starter $8.99/mo, Unlimited $24.99/mo, annual and Lifetime options) with 5,500+ active paying subscribers and no customer concentration. TTM revenue ~$709k net of VAT; TTM operating profit ~$447k (63% margin) before any add-backs; SDE $467k. Profitable from month one, no debt, no outside money, prices never increased. August 2026 revenue was +120% on August 2025, and growth is primarily organic: one short Reel a day to a 187,000-follower Instagram account. Genuinely hands-off: two founders, no employees or contractors, and since February 2026 the business has run on 3–5 hours a week combined while still growing year-on-year. Every cost scales with usage; gross margin was 76% for the year and 82.5% in August, and hosting was cut ~85% in August so forward margin is higher. Growth opportunities a buyer inherits: strong enterprise, university and corporate demand we currently have to turn away, a 90,000+ email list we don't currently email, a first price increase, paid acquisition run properly (ours ran on autopilot), and win-back emails to lapsed users. We're selling because we had a baby in January and are relocating overseas; we'll give up to 30 days of hands-on handover plus email support afterwards.

Asking Price Reasoning
$2.2M is 4.7× TTM SDE of $467k and 3.1× TTM revenue of $709k (net of VAT). Acquire's data puts profitable SaaS at a ~4× profit median, with premiums for growth, margin and low owner involvement; this business has all three. Revenue is +120% year-on-year (Aug-26 vs Aug-25). Operating margin is 63% before any adjustments, with no founder salaries in the cost base and add-backs of only 5% of profit. 5,500+ subscribers, no concentration risk, and growth driven by organic Instagram (187k followers). Since February it has run on 3–5 founder hours a week and still grew year-on-year, so the profit needs little adjustment for an operator's time. Costs are falling (hosting cut ~85% in August, ad spend cut from September) and obvious levers remain untouched: inbound enterprise and university demand, a 90k email list never marketed to, prices never raised. Cash-basis accounts reconcile to the bank to the penny; Stripe access and full data room available.
