Profitable European Portuguese subscription with a loyal 4-year audience

A subscription platform for learning European Portuguese, built around content rather than dry rules. Every lesson starts from a real story, joke or quote, and the grammar and vocabulary are taught from it, which makes it memorable. A free newsletter goes out weekly to 3,940 subscribers at a 67.5% average open rate. The paid membership expands each lesson and adds beginner courses, grammar and vocabulary material, music-based lessons, practical scenarios, study packs, flashcards, interactive exercises and native-pronunciation audio. The business is over four years old, profitable, and runs on about a day a week with a freelance tutor handling corrections. You don't need to speak Portuguese to run this business. I don't, and it has never been a requirement. A Portugal-based freelance tutor writes and verifies the Portuguese in every lesson, so the language side is fully handled. It suits expats, travellers, and anyone learning European Portuguese.

Selling Reasoning
  • Starting a new venture
  • Lifestyle change
  • Lack of time
I started this as a side project because I wanted to learn Portuguese myself. It grew into a real business, and around the same time I moved to Amsterdam, so the time it needed kept rising. I now work as a life coach and want to focus on that full time. I can only give the project about a day a week, which is enough to keep it running well but not enough to grow it. It would do far better with an owner who has the time and the marketing skills, like SEO, ads and partnerships, that I haven't been able to give it.
