Proprietary market data business + two paid finance newsletters

The business sells market datasets to traders and investment firms through an API. Two paid Substack newsletters publish trading research that uses the data and sends readers to it. You get the data business, the audience that feeds it, and the recurring income from both. What’s included Substack: 14,000+ subscribers across two publications, both with Bestseller badges (the status Substack awards at 100+ paid subscribers). Data API: 30 documented datasets, 200+ registered accounts, Pro plan at $349/mo Enterprise sales: outreach pipelines to leading hedge funds are built and ready, with sales decks and trial materials in place. Enterprise licences run around $50,000 a year. Content and search: 554 articles and 25 data studies rank on page 1 of Google for searches by people shopping for market data. That brings in about 211,000 impressions and 2,000 clicks a quarter, without paid ads. Also included: a ready-to-build roadmap of 125 researched datasets, with the next 25 already sequenced for launch, and 96 demand-ranked articles planned with angles and charts, so months of content and catalogue growth are mapped out from day one. It also includes a Medium account associated with the brand, covering 16,000 followers for an added distribution advantage. How it runs Publishing, data updates, SEO and monitoring run on automated schedules. Keeping the business running takes about 2 hours a week. Extra time on new articles, datasets or enterprise sales goes into growth, not upkeep. The founder is also offering a 30–180 day handover and post-sale support.

Asking Price Reasoning
The ask is not calculated as a multiple of subscription revenue, since the subscription revenue is the floor rather than the end-case. It's priced against the compounding recurring income, the enterprise deal economics and the cost of rebuilding the asset (our competitive "moat"). A single institutional license at this level is worth roughly 140 retail subscribers, and the pipeline already holds the infrastructure for sustained outreach and sales development. Two closes on that axis doubles the revenue base at a fraction of the support load, and the price reflects that.

The single highest leverage addition is one part-time SDR or business development associate, ten to fifteen hours a week. The addressable market is thousands of SEC-registered funds, and the first 196 are already ranked by their actual stock holdings and event history, so the role starts with a warm map rather than a blank spreadsheet. This is not a sales department and needs no ramp. Scripts, deck, data sourcing FAQ and evaluation pack are built, so the job is dialling and booking, and it can run on a small base plus commission so cost tracks closed deals.

A client has offered me a seat to run a proprietary trading book. The business is sound, so it goes to market while it is healthy and the enterprise cycle is live, rather than after a slow decline.
